Transferring your booking
If the original guest is unable to attend and wishes to transfer their room, both the original and new guests must call together. The original guest will be required to pay a non-refundable transfer fee, which will be deducted from their refunded deposit. Once the transfer is complete, the reservation will be placed under the new guest’s name, and their credit card will be charged for the new deposit.
Watch Out For Room & Ticket Scammers:
Every year, scammers target convention attendees by posing as individuals with extra rooms or badges to sell. These fake offers can look convincing but often leave attendees out of money and without a place to stay or a ticket to the event. To help protect our community, we’ve put together a list of the most common red flags to watch for. Stay informed, buy smart, and don’t let a scam ruin your con experience.
- They do not make their own post offering a room. Instead, they comment on other people's posts—often as non-group members—claiming to have a room or space available.
- They initiate contact only through private messages and avoid commenting publicly on posts.
- They insist on handling the transfer privately and refuse to verify the transfer on a group call with Kalahari.
- They do not complete the transfer through the official Kalahari Phone Transfer System. (Refer to our Kalahari Room Transfer Procedure.)
- They fail to provide basic details, such as the type of room or the actual available space.
- They ask for payment through non-refundable methods such as PayPal Friends & Family or Cash App and refuse to accept PayPal Goods & Services—even if you offer to cover the fee.
- They ask for unusually low amounts of money (typically $50–$100), much lower than a standard room split unless excessive room stuffing is involved.
- Your payment triggers a currency conversion (e.g., to Euros), indicating a foreign recipient.
- They claim there’s no room transfer fee required.
- Their account appears suspicious—no real name, no contact information, and a fake-looking or recently created Facebook profile.
- They say things like “I have 4 tickets but can no longer attend,” often citing vague emergencies like a funeral, wedding, illness, or COVID.
- Their Facebook name doesn’t match their profile, or the account looks fake.
- They repeatedly post the same message across multiple ticket-related posts or unrelated threads.
- They are not a member of the group or a follower of the page.
- They comment frequently on event pages offering tickets for sale.
- The only authorized place to purchase tickets is through our official website.
